Holiday movie nights are just about as festive as sleigh bells and holly. Settling in on the couch for a few hours with cocoa, popcorn, and your favorite people is one of the best ways to fill your home with the holiday spirit.

In case your family’s tree-lit movie night needs some inspiration, here’s a list of the BCHome Team’s top 10 favorite Christmas movies in no particular order. We hope you enjoy these as much as we do!

1. It’s a Wonderful Life 

It’s hard to go wrong with this classic movie. Its life affirming story rings in the season with the powerful message that everyone is worth something.

2. Elf 

Who doesn’t love Will Ferrell in this modern favorite? The whimsical overgrown elf is looking to find his biological father in snowy NYC. With tons of quotable lines and an endearing rendition of “Baby it’s Cold Outside,” this one is a favorite for young and old.

3. The Preacher’s Wife

Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston star in this ‘90s throwback. The story is a retelling of the old classic, The Bishop’s Wife. Lovable angel Dudley comes down to earth to help an overworked minister and his family in a time of crisis.

4. Home Alone

When Kevin Macalister gets left home alone by his distracted family, burglars plot to ransack his home and chaos ensues. Another ‘90s favorite that will provide nostalgia for children of the ‘80s and ‘90s while bringing laughs to younger generations.

5. Polar Express 

This beautiful CGI animated masterpiece tells the story of a boy who is struggling to believe in Santa. Have a pajama party movie night while watching the train adventure to the North Pole. It just might make the most hardened hearts believe again.

6. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 

This ‘80s film is a movie your family will find themselves watching year after yearThe Griswold family's plans for a big family Christmas quickly turns into a big disaster with many laughs along the way. This movie will be sure to have you laughing while celebrating the holiday season.

7. Gremlins 

While not always seen as a traditional Christmas movie, this ‘80s film is a fun and offbeat addition to your Christmas viewing docket. Watch the Christmas gift of a cuddly creature go haywire and wreak havoc all over this small town.

8. A Charlie Brown Christmas 

Bring giggles to the youngest generation and warm memories from adults alike. Fall in love once again with a pitiful Christmas tree and watch the Peanuts gang as they get up to mischief.

9. How the Grinch Stole Christmas 

Dr. Suess’s magical tale of the Whos down in Whoville and a holiday hating Grinch come to life in this live-action remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Watch as Cindy Lou Who brings the season’s joy to a green monster.

10. A Christmas Story 

A tale of an ordinary family in the 1940s and the boy who wants nothing more than a Red Ryder BB Gun from Santa. Relive the painfully funny tongue stuck to the pole incident or recite favorite lines like “You’ll shoot your eye out!”  A timeless story that’s as Christmassy as tinsel and eggnog.
