Give Back this Holiday Season by Volunteering at these Local Charities
It can feel overwhelming to see the incredible amount of need throughout the world. One way to help is to start in your local community. Charities in Bergen County and nearby are in need of help throughout the year. In this season of generosity, it’s a great idea to include some volunteer work or charitable giving in your holiday traditions.
While we all have our own favorite charities, it is always nice to expand your outreach by learning about the needs in other groups. Work together with your family by volunteering or giving to some of these local organizations this holiday season.
200 Robin Rd.
With a wide variety of volunteer needs, this nonprofit is a great way to volunteer this winter. They provide help with adoptions, foster care, assistance to families in need, and help for those struggling with addiction. Consider volunteering or giving much needed financial assistance to this organization.
64 Passaic St.
Although they have a variety of unique ways you can give throughout the year, Bergen Volunteer Center offers the All Wrapped Up campaign during the holidays. You can adopt a family or individual who can’t afford Christmas gifts. You can also participate in gift card donations or give to the organization to make the work they do possible.
192 W. Demarest Ave.
This organization provides a great variety of ways to give back. You could host a food drive, work with their Weekend Snack Program to provide food for children who may otherwise experience hunger over the weekends, or work in the pantry and warehouse. As with any nonprofit, they are always in need of financial assistance and welcome efforts to fundraise for this great cause.
100 Dayton St.
This group offers help to families who find themselves experiencing homelessness. They have needs for volunteers during events, need home repair help, office volunteers, marketing support, and help with mailings. There are plenty of other ways this organization could use physical and financial support.
P.O. Box 1516
This provides a lovely option for your younger children who want to do something for others this year. Send a picture lovingly colored to someone who could use a smile. Overseas troops, the elderly, and more benefit from the kind donations from budding artists.
Kosher Meals on Wheels
1485 Teaneck Rd.
Use your car to deliver meals to people in need. This organization delivers over 50,000 meals each year, including weekly Shabbat meals to Holocaust survivors on Fridays. This is a great way to share a much needed meal and give back.
We hope this list helps to give you some new ways to spread cheer this holiday season. We would love to hear about your favorite charities that could use a little extra support this time of year!
